Daily Standup Meeting

Time - 9:00 AM

It was routine for the Daily Prophet employees to have a meeting early in the morning, just as they start their day so that they could go through the cases they were going to cover, the agenda for the day, the updates for any of their previous cases, and if they needed any help. This was mostly done so that everyone knew what the other person was working on and that all the stories had a comprehensive input from everyone in the team. It helped expand the way they were thinking and also brought facets of story on the table that they hadn't thought of before. Vlad attended these meetings religiously, though many a times in his absence it was Elisa who ran them - being his right hand for pretty much everything that they did in the prophet. Everyone was required to be in this meeting, because it was technically what marked their start of the day - and they were expected to come prepared. Sharp, by 8:30 AM, Vlad was already in office and was seen on his desk, going over a few articles that had been left on his desk the night before. By 8:50 AM he was already in the briefing room, taking his place at the front of the room. His file was open on the desk next to him which had a list of all the stories everyone was working on. There was a board behind him which had different dates written on them - one for every day of the week that week, and there were scribbles of completed articles under each date along with articles that were pending.

That was exactly what his work entailed - figuring out which article went where and on which date, so that it was a comprehensive issue which wasn't lacking in any aspect.

Sofiya always saw herself as a journalist... you know the kind who'd deliver the news? The broadcast girl. That's what she thought she wanted to do but it was in the muggle world and that was the entire reason she had gone for the second-best option; the Daily Prophet. Though she grew up in the States and even stayed there during her holidays, the muggle world wasn't meant for the girl who was so used to performing magic for every little thing. There would be no quick quills writing her articles, or a wave of spell to get the pictures she wanted. Nah... she couldn't. Besides, wizarding newspapers were pretty hot and happening. Originally she was working at the Sweden Oracle but it had momentarily shut down so they were given the option to move or find another job, or wait. Sofiya had gone for the first choice as she couldn't imagine taking a break so early in her career and she was too attached to her people to want to let go. It was different but having familiar faces around helped in settling down. It was forty minutes past eight when she popped up in the office and after keeping her bag, went straight to the coffee machine to pour herself some. There were employees that slacked but the Daily Propheteers... most of them were highly punctual and it was all thanks to their Editor in Chief who kept them on their toes. The meeting in the morning was a genius way to get them all to come on time or face a lecture and a disappointed EIC for the rest of the day. No, thank you. Sof used to be a slacker but she's improved a great deal. And it was clearly seen when she was one of the first people who arrived in the briefing room. As expected Vlad was already there and she smiled at the man, walking to her usual seat. "Good Morning Vlad." She greeted the man, the papers and files floating behind her and with one swift wave, they settled down on the table in front of her. "You seem in good spirits." She chuckled, taking a seat. She knew him... well, of him as they went to the same school and some students just left their mark.

Shaad was both.. an early riser and a night person. When he wanted to be lazy and knew he could be, he'd sleep late and wake up after an entire day but when he had work, he'd wake up early and be punctual. Pretty responsible, eh? That's Shaad for you... the only Hennings kid who was actually responsible. He thinks that. Anyway, ever since life at the Prophet started, there was no sleeping in unless it was the weekend and then they were off and he could do whatever he liked. He didn't mind, though. He's been missing work after leaving school. He had an internship with Elisa but it wasn't the same as working full time and had long periods where he was practically doing nothing. It wasn't fun so when work-life happened, you could bet he was timely and dedicated. Apparating close to the headquarters, the boy had got himself a mocha frappucino from Starbucks, his favorite muggle brew, and then walked to where his workplace was, pausing at the desk to grab his materials and walking into the briefing room. He's been working late on one article that is due the next day so it's almost completed. Shaad was relatively new... he was confirmed as an employee a week back so they've been giving him an article or two to start with. Not that he couldn't handle it but you know how it is with the new employees? Yep. People were still arriving so if he saw them, he passed them a friendly hey. The boss was there, and so was Sofiya, one of his senior colleagues and he nodded at both of them. "Morning," before taking a seat and fixing the hoodie he is wearing on black jeans... his comfort work wear. Lucky for him, they are not too uptight about clothing unless they are at an event or public briefing and that is one thing he loves about working here. Not being forced into formals on a daily basis.

Oh crap! It's almost 9!! Carlene freaked out as she checked her watch, tied her hair up in a messy bun, and quickly changed into the first thing she could find. At the last moment, she didn't like her shirt so she threw it away and quickly scanned her cupboard for another one.. yea this would do. Next time she should try to pick out her clothes the night before cuz she was always going to stay up late and end up sleeping late and cramming early in the morning. She couldn't afford to be late for the third day in a row or the boss was practically going to kick her out. As she apparated in her usual spot, her eyes ran through the shops and her stomach grumbled but there was no time and Carly made a mental note of coming down after the briefing was done to get something to eat. Anyway, she couldn't eat this early in the morning, unless she wanted to be a victim of morning sickness. The girl practically ran to the office, muttering his and hellos to the people she saw, and went to her desk. There were files scattered all over and she had to sort them out but first, she just picked up her notepad, articles that were due that day, and her highlighters, and paused for a moment to take a deep breath. At least she was not late that day. Her eyes fell on the mirror opposite where she checked out her outfit and then let her hair down. Carlene was probably the clumsiest and messiest but when it came to fashion, she loved being caught up in the trends. Maybe she should have been a fashion writer because you want fashion updates, she's your girl. Once she was sure she wasn't forgetting anything, the girl walked to the briefing room being her chirpy self, and entered, only to trip on her own heels. "Ouuch... sorry!" Gah, she was so excited about being on time after being late for the past two days, mentally dancing that she wouldn't be getting the late again look that she wasn't even watching where she went. But like she said.. clumsy. "Morning boss, I am on time today." She couldn't help adding, being extra as usual, and kept her files on the desk, and took a deep breath. All the running around had sort of put her out of breath.

(GM granted by Elisa’s writer)

Alayne arrived at the Prophet headquarters a little late than usual that day. She’s not late for her job, just later than when she usually arrives because she had to drop off Finn at his father’s house first before she goes to work. It’s his time to spend with his father that week so there’s that. The little boy had a little trouble waking up so Alayne had to pull all the tricks in the book that she knows in order to get him bathed, dressed, fed, and ready to be sent to his father’s. This separation made her sad since it will be a few days before her son comes back to her, but it is what it is and he needs to spend some time with his father too. So yeah, Alayne is a little down compared to her usual chirpy attitude. When she arrived at the office, she immediately went to see Elisa since she already have the list of words she needed help with. She went to her desk and gave her the list of words complete with connotations.  "Here’s the list of words you need. The morning meeting’s about to start. Let’s go?" She looked at her watch and it’s almost time so she and Elisa walked to the briefing room together. When they arrived, some of the team was already there. "Good morning, Vlad. Everyone," she greeted everyone and stood by the table.

Elisa was stifling a yawn as she speed-walked through the getting-busier streets of Diagon Alley. She was running a bit behind because she had to stop at a café to get her caffeine fix with a little extra hit since she had a long night on top of a long day yesterday. She paused though, as she stepped in the entrance of the Daily Prophet Headquarters. With a quick glance around, Elisa realised that there's plenty of people running behind today and that kinda made her grin with some relief. Still, turning up late was in no one's favour and so she hurried toward her own desk, dropping off her stuff then checked he calendar, reminding herself of deadlines and making sure she wore ID. It was something that she's forgotten yesterday, so yeah; Elisa was straightening up her yellow dress when she noticed that someone's approaching: Alayne. She greeted the woman politely and flashed a bright smile of gratitude as she accepted the roll of parchment. "Thank you so much! You are a lifesaver," she couldn't help gushing as she set it on her desk. Then Alayne reminded her of their meeting and she nodded. "Yes, right—let's go!" she nodded then went to walk together with the woman toward briefing room where quite a few were already present. "Good morning, everyone," she greeted the room as she went to stand by Vlad. She managed to seem perky, which is a relief. It was a couple of minutes to nine so they've made it on time, mercifully.

Dax felt like he was running late for work, which led to him rushing. The fortunate thing was that he had purchased a home in Diagon Alley, so he wasn't exactly far from the Prophet headquarters. He was adjusting his robes, passing by some of the cubicles, and wishing he had some food because he had to skip breakfast. It was when he realized he wasn't even late that he silently chastised himself and checked his watch. Living in Diagon Alley afforded him more time than he was used to, apparently. Dax hung toward the back of the briefing room just the same, hoping he could slip out once it was over and maybe grab a bite to eat from the break room. Otherwise, Dax was going to have a hard time getting through the day.

Zoey wasn't a fan of early morning meetings. Most of her work took place in the evening, which meant cramming an article at night just to meet the deadline before printing. Zoey rarely was in the office before 10. Well, she was never in the office before ten unless she had to be, like today. She attended a red carpet event last night, and didn't get home until 2AM. So, needless to say, she wasn't in the best mood at the moment. She walked into the briefing room without saying a word. She took a seat and grabbed one of the cans of coffee, filling her mug and downing it in one go before looking at Vladislav, waiting to see what was so important for her to be there at this ungodly hour.

Slowly, the team started to arrive - some rushing in just after he came in, and some coming in while chatting with each other. Vlad tried to never really come off as the over-dominating, micromanaging boss because he remembered just how much he hated them when he was just starting off, but many a times he didn't even needed to be. His team was rather punctual, and had the same passion instilled in them that he had. Except maybe for one or two. Sofiya was the first to arrive with a bunch of papers floating behind her as she walked in. Vlad grinned at her. "Can't say about me, but you definitely seem to be in a good mood." He chuckled, tipping his head forward as a means of greeting. She had been with them since his Oracle days so of course he knew her well enough. Quick to follow her was their latest recruit, Shaad, who came in with a starbucks that Vlad eyed - before shaking his head. He had given up on caffeine almost 2 months back, because it was affecting his worse during the full moon. Ana had researched hard enough to tell him to throw the coffee away - and after much resistance he had done so. "All good, Hennings? Settling in well?" He spoke to the young boy, just as a surprise presence literally tripped her way into his field of vision causing his eyebrows to raise ever so slightly - Carlene. "Yep, wasn't expecting that Müller. You keep that up and I might just approve your leaves." There was a teasing tone to his voice, referring an inside joke between the two. Just after that Alayne and Elisa arrived, and he smiled at the two ladies. "Morning ladies." He stepped to the side as Elisa came to stand next to him. Their photojournalist, Dax, rushed in barely on time but hung back and Zoey walked in with that sour expression that Vlad chose to ignore. He had enough trouble that came his way because of her - but she was on time that day so he had nothing to complain about.

"Alright folks." He gave a clap to call attention to everyone. There were still a few missing, but it was 9 already and he wasn't going to wait one minute extra. It was their loss after all, their articles won't be published. "You know the drill. Let's go round table on what we are working on. Other people, feel free to add your views. Do keep in mind.." He pointed at the board. "The priorities of our deadlines. The publication for tomorrow is more important than the one 3 days later, so start with the first priority and then go onto your stories for the further publications." He obviously did know what most of them were working on, since it must have been discussed in the previous stand up meetings - but in case they caught hold of a new idea in one day, this was the right forum to bring it up. His eyes flickered to Elisa, tilting his head towards the board as if to say 'you wanna do this today?'; they did have shared responsibility of updating the board after all as everyone went round table.

[OOC - feel free to make up things you are working on basis whatever your role is. Sports can talk about a few matches, crime can speak of some murder or muggle killings or whatever, politics can speak about some closed door meeting that happened in ministry that no one knows about..etc etc you get the gist. Things DONT needs be actually happening for you to talk about them, so go nuts!]

Carly gave the most innocent smile to her boss when he agreed not to expect her on time and mentioned the leaves. Oh, those leaves. She wanted to visit her family in Germany so she applied for them and could only hope they got approved. Darn those alarm clocks. Looks like she'll be needing to get ten more of those so they can ring on an interval of five minutes each. "You got it, boss." She took an empty seat, opening her file that held her drafts of publications in order. This was one thing she was organized in knowing how the flow of the meeting worked. Imagine Carlene fixing things up right in the middle of it. Not that it hasn't happened before but she was trying. More and more of the team arrived until they were all there and then it started right on time. Since she was already prepared and no one had started speaking up yet, Carly decided to go first. "Okay, I'll go first. My article on the muggle found in knockturn alley is completed and already submitted for tomorrow's release. Another one on illegal potions being crafted for the day after tomorrow is drafted and sent to you for the editor's review. And got two more after the day, one has been drafted, need to do a final check and the second one is half completed but I'll be working on it tomorrow and submitting both of them for review. That's the publishing part for this week." Carlene flipped through the pages of her article in her file to make sure she was not missing out on any. That was it for this week. Now the leads... "There are rumors of a mafia clan visiting the Borgin & Burkes daily for the past week, at least that is what I have heard from my sources. Something about striking a new deal so that is the lead I am chasing for the next week's issue. There are two more, will get those details today and will give an update in tomorrow's meeting. That's all on my part." She closed her file and kept it on her desk, giving way for the others to take the stage.

The sports department was probably one of the busiest these days. Even though this year's Quidditch League games haven't started, most of them sports reporters were often sent to cover various competitions within UK. As soon as the competitions are over, she still need to head back to the headquarters to make write-ups for the next morning's paper and before she realized it, she has already fallen asleep in her work desk. She was basically lodging in the office that she cannot even remember the last time she had a proper sleep in her own bed. That morning, however, she was having a really good dream about her non-existent vacation in Vanuatu until the aroma of coffee being brewed reached her nostrils, her lower back making a cracking sound as soon as she straightened her back. "Ow..." She winced, her still groggy eyes looked around the empty desks. Huh, where's everyone? she mused, and it didn't take long until realization comes to her senses. "Crap!" With expertly swift movements, Jessica tidied herself up. Thanks to the wonders of magic, she was able to make herself presentable at the very least, despite not taking a shower. Yikes.

When she arrived the briefing room, Vlad has already started the meeting. Jessica lowered her head as joined the group, realizing she was wearing a different pair of footwear; one being a clog shoe and the other was her work boot. Double yikes. Anyways, she listened to Carlene as the woman discussed her report on suspected mafia dealings at a shop in London. As that was beyond her department's jurisdiction, Jessica simply listened and wrote down notes. After the report was over, Jessica raised her hand and decided to give hers. "I will be covering the Wizard's Chess semi-finals this morning which is..." she checked her watch, "in two hours. Then I'll hand over my write-up before going home." Jessica gave the boss a small smile before continuing. "Also, I'm working on a special article on some Quidditch league players who might be qualified for the national teams next World Cup season. This is still a work-in-process but I'll keep you posted on its progress."

Dax was a freaking photographer. He didn't have his own leads necessarily. When it came to the Prophet, he went where the action was according to the journalists and took the photos that would support their stories. That being said, he wasn't completely useless. He always had his camera with him when he went out, just in case he spotted something that was story worthy. It just so happened that he had something of that sort. He waited until some others spoke up, then smirked and moved forward a bit to be better seen.

"I have something that could make potential headlines," he said loudly enough to be well heard. "If McLaggen is interested in running with it and you agree that it is print worthy," he added with a glance at Zoey - the writer for their entertainment column. "It's got to do with a juicy secret that a special, well-known musician is keeping..." he added, trailing off cryptically to build suspense.

Zoey's eyes instantly were set on Dax when he mentioned something about a musician. She shot him a knowing look, a mischievous smile plastered on her face. "I'm all ears. I think we have some catching up to do, Skeeter." Zoey said with a playful smirk towards the younger guy. "I was working on a piece on the dresses worn to the latest premiere of O'Reilly's newest stage play. But I definitely have time for an exposé." Zoey said and shot a look at Vladislav for the first time that morning. "Especially with photographic evidence to back up the claims." The latest piece she had written had caused quite a bit of a situation, although Zoey knew her piece was 100% the truth. She had her witnesses and everything, but it would be so much better with a picture.

"Never been better," he grinned at the Editor-in-Chief, giving him a thumbs up. It hadn't been long since he started so his work was less compared to all the others who started giving their briefs one after another. For the first part, Shaad stayed silent, listening to them and making notes wherever required. Carlene was the only writer from his area so he focused on her the most since he did accompany her most of the time to get an idea of how things worked at the Daily Prophet. Once most of them had shared their news, he decided to go next. "I am currently accompanying Carlene to the Holyhead Art Heist and the first draft will be in your office by tomorrow evening. I am covering a hearing at the Ministry later today and I have a new possible lead to follow in Diagon Alley Pet Shop. I'll be getting more information in a day or two and will keep you posted." He informed the man, taking the back seat for the others to go on. It was going to be a late night that evening since the Ministry trial was said to start later in the evening and he was hoping he could get a word or two from one of the Wizengamot officials.

Dax shot Zoey a wink and nodded. "We can chat after the meeting," he offered. This wasn't the time to reveal the story, not in front of the entire team. He didn't want anyone else trying to snatch up this story. Dax had the photographs... Zoey had the writing skills. Together, they could make the front page. Then the rest of the Prophet could admire their work.

The meeting began not long after they arrived; Vlad didn't waste any time getting things started, keeping it brief, basically asking everyone to share what they are working on; he passed the marking pen her way and she accepted it with a smile. Elisa was his deputy back when they used to work together at the Oracle. Now she still filled that same role minus the official title, which she never minded because she was used to it. She uncapped the pen to add more notes on the board then waited on what everyone had to say.

Carlene was first to speak; the woman shared the piece she's working on is ready for release tomorrow and she has another draft for review. Elisa went to write that down, marking the one ready for publishing and putting a star on the one that needs editing. The crime and courtroom writer has a few more in the works which she added on a different column in the board. Then Jessica, a sports writer, went next; she spoke about the semi-finals article she's finishing. Elisa marked that as something to follow-up on later also. Dax, the photographer, mentioned he's got something he wanted to work on with Zoey. Elisa wrote their names side-by-side, specifying that they are working together on a piece for entertainment section. Zoey also mentioned something that she's working on which she added onto one of the other columns. Then Shaad talked about accompanying Carlene at the Holyhead Art Heist. Her eyes light up with curiosity—that sounds quite… interesting. She put that article under both their names and then made an additional note on the ministry hearing mentioned, as well as the new lead.

Then Elisa proceeded to speak, taking a turn as well. "I'm working on the piece about the press conference that we discussed yesterday, I'll have it on your desk before noon. And I'm also working on a piece about the rising concern over unlicensed apparition which should be ready either tomorrow or the day after. I haven't got any new leads yet but I have a few meetings today which should give me something… but yeah, I'll keep you posted," she told Vlad. She was cutting it a bit too close to deadlines, she's aware, so she tried to sound as reassuring as possible.

Alayne is always happy to help whenever it is needed. Elisa needed help with some court jargons and she happens to have connections so she helped the young lady out. She knew how it feels when you are stuck because of something. "You’re welcome. Just let me know if you need anything else, okay?" They made the morning meeting and it started shortly after their arrival. Vlad caught all of their attention and Alayne focused on him.

One by one, her colleagues shared what they’ve been working on and it sounds like a lot. That is the life of a journalist. You follow wherever leads lead you. Which leads us back to Alayne. After Elisa gave her update, she spoke up. "I am almost done with the edits for my article tomorrow about the alleged werewolf attacks in Stockport. I think it has the potential to become a series because a lot of things keep coming up and there’s always a new lead everyday." She actually has an interview coming up with one of the survivors of the attacks. "You can expect my article on your desk end of the day."

Zoey was excited to see Nadia again. The girl had worked for her once again, as a PA a couple of years back, but now that the girl was older, the girl returned to intern as an actual journalist. Zoey hoped the girl's enthusiasm would only grow after a term as an intern with Zoey, she would love to see the girl return to work with them. Merlin knows they needed all the help they could get. And well, after she met her as a PA, Zoey had found herself to have quite the soft spot for her boss' daughter. Zoey waited for Nadia's arrival in the briefing room, where they'd go over all the basics and she would receive all her necessities for her time at the Prophet.

Growing older Nadia realized there were a lot of options she could consider as a career and it didn't have to be what her father did. It was probably the girl in her who was making sure she was not limiting her options and making rash decisions but no matter what she tried, she couldn't gain the same passion she did for writing. It wasn't the writing as a whole but more of what she wanted to write about. As she matured, some things started mattering, some made sense. Like speaking for women... standing for their rights. She knew no matter how traditional the magical world was, they were always progressive regarding women's rights, but the same couldn't be said for all countries, especially not the muggle ones. Maybe as a journalist, she could make a difference. Even if she was working for daily prophet, witches and wizards were more aware and engaged with the muggle world too. And well, there could be so much more conveyed in the magical world itself. That's what made her so passionate about being a journalist.... communicating the causes to the people, making them aware, giving them the right news and when she realized that, Nadi knew what her future career was. Lucky for her, it came before she graduated and she was able to secure an internship with the daily prophet. The name of her supervisor was familiar and her eyes lit up realizing she got Zoey again. The woman had been extremely helpful to her when she was serving as a PA and always made sure to push her forward which she loved about her. Women pulling up other women was her favorite genre.

It was nine in the morning, a few minutes prior when she arrived at the headquarters and reported her arrival at the reception and was instantly told to go to the meeting room. Nadia smiled at the lady, walked into the briefing room, and found Zoey already in there. "Hello Zoey, how are you?" She asked the woman. It's been some years... the last time Nadia saw her was as a thirteen year old and now she was an adult.
