Amirah was gearing up to start school again. Her final year at Magical Minds before finally upgrading to Hogwarts. Now, school hadn't technically started yet, but she still found herself in Godric's Hollow. Her mother had errands to run, and Amirah didn't quite have her parents' trust to remain home alone. That would change as she got older; she could do more without parental interference. But for now, she was stuck tagging along on every single outing. Which wasn't such a bad thing, because funnily enough, while she couldn't be trusted to be left home alone, she was apparently trustworthy enough to wander out in public on her own. Hard to understand, that one, but whatever.

Amirah followed her mother into the post office. Not because her mother needed to send anything. No, it would seem her mother had to speak to someone, and they happened to be here. It didn't smell great in here, and she wrinkled her nose a little as she watched the owls peering at her from their perches. After a while, she just told her mother she'd be somewhere further down the street and left. The fresh air was much appreciated once she got outdoors again, though she could do without the cold chill in the air. Pulling her coat tighter around herself, she wandered down the way, gazing through the shop windows. One shop in particular caught her attention. It was heavily decorated inside, and right in the window, she could see a plush seat and– was that a fireplace? Oh, that would be nice and toasty. That settled it for Amirah and she pushed through the door. Immediately she was hit with the smell of incense. Much better than owl poop. There were many beautiful objects laying around. A lot of glass and crystal. But, rather than to inspect these objects closer, she made her way to the big chair and huddled up onto it. The fire crackled beside her, and as Amirah gazed out the window at those walking by on the street, she had to wonder what kind of shop this was, exactly. But whatever it was, it was pretty cool.

Rhé was in this place accompanied by adult niece Nem’t. Sidelong apparition was not the finest way of travel, but there was only obedience to what niece Nem’t wanted. Rhé was too young at twelve years to have a say in this. She spoke quite well English, but with the youngster she bothered not to do it and gave snaps in Arabic to stay with her. Nem’t had never been the kindest person around, and therefore she had been in fierce Gryffindor, not Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw in her time at Hogwarts. “Rhé, behave normally and don’t do so ridiculous,” she stretched out to Rhé. Only grunting there would surely be a chance to go snooping out alone and when niece Nem’t was the one becoming engaged in what she would need, Rhé used stealthy techniques to wave between the waiting people and get out.

Deep breathing the fresh air Rhé pulled the shawl over the head fastened it in the neck. The cold was biting and the heat of the desert was greatly liked than the white fluffy powder. A pub was all better and Rhé was bold enough to step in and disappear. A little shadow found itself towards the fires, where it was warm enough to pull handshoes off and draw the hood back. A girl (Amirah) nearly as tall maybe as Rhé was sitting there, and joning happened suit.Oh hello, my name is Rhé and I am Egyptian,” said the young student. Just escaped my barking watcher, annoying as she is.” The chairs were pretty high, but Rhé managed well enough to climb on it and settled next of the curious girl. As much a child still it was quite search these days to find people with an interest for lightful play and research.Sorry, I am just twelve years and my second term at Hogwarts is starting in a few weeks.”

Amirah watched people go by, running a mental commentary on their fashion to occupy herself. She saw a few cute jackets go by, and made a note to keep an eye out for similar ones the next time her mother took her shopping for clothes. She was at an age where her size changed from year to year, so she was often getting new clothes. And that suited her just fine, even if her mother could be awfully fussy with the whole process. The brunette was taken from her thoughts by a voice that she eventually realized was addressing her. Looking over, she saw a girl sat in one of the other chairs. Unprompted, the other began offloading a bunch of information about herself. This one's keen to make a new friend, Amirah thought to herself. But, seeing as she hadn't much else better to do, she'd bite. People-watching was fine and all, but at least some conversation could prove to be more stimulating. "Ah, you're my brother's age. Though he's still stuck in first year," she replied, lips twisting into a smirk. It was a fact she'd teased him about endlessly over the holidays, because who failed their first year? "I'm Amirah," she offered, brushing some hair back from her face. "Swedish." Seeing as they were apparently sharing their nationalities. "While my brother may be twelve, I'm just ten. Can't go to Hogwarts yet. But soon I will." Merlin, she couldn't wait. "So you come from Egypt, huh? Must be a lot hotter than it is here. Or in Sweden." Pyramids, sand, and camels are what came to mind. Amirah craned her head back, scanning the shop for any signs of adults and this 'barking watcher' Rhé spoke of. There was no one in sight—not even a shopkeeper—so she figured the woman must be elsewhere, much like her own mother. "Fun, isn't it, to manage to sneak away from your parents?" Her smirk was back as she regarded her companion once more. "I do love my mom, but boy was I bored of staring at owls while she did her adult business. On my own, I can do whatever I want. Like come in here and sit in this comfy chair. Do you know what kind of store this is?" she asked, glancing back at the shelves. "I didn't really look at the sign before coming in."

Rhé just watched a bit apprehensive how the girl would respond, but she seemed kind enough to be willing to talk. She was offering information about herself too and it was fairly interesting. The smirk that went with the remark to have an older brother, having completed a first year but failed? Ouch, it was embarrassing. Rhé was glad not be a quitter of sorts. Nice to meet you, Amirah. From Sweden? Oh wow, that is on the other side of the world.” Rhé had definite heard of the Scandinavian lands, and how cold those lands always were. Confirming Egypt as the homeland, Rhé added: “Desert hot, the meridian Cancer run straight over my town, at midsummer the sun is straight above me. Home is Aswan, Upper-Egypt near the Sudan border. Mostly rural lands and pastoral way of life in the east hills. We have a villa by the river.” At some point Rhé might have a run-in with her brother.

You like to have a drink?” offered Rhé to Amirah. A private home by the river Nile was an actually luxury, many Egyptians didn’t have. With access to water you could own a boat and travel anywhere. Rhé grinned about the sneaking off.My watchdog is actually an adult niece of mine. It is awesome, specially with her. Mum and dad give me space to explore in the sandbox the Sahara is. I am quite lucky to have them.” At her question of what kind of store this was, Rhé gave it an inquisitive gaze. “I would say… a divination shop of sorts, where healing takes place. Name is Arcana. There are plants all over, magic and mundane. Artwork, and I would say runes, but I am not certain. You must know them?” Rhé reached a wooden rune set with curious characters on them. I can read glyphs, but not these.”

Cold, indeed. And for someone like Amirah who wasn't fond of the cold, Sweden was... an interesting place to be raised. She wouldn't pretend to know what on earth a meridian Cancer was—it sounded like a pretty gnarly disease—but the gist of what Rhé was saying boiled down to a very simple notion; her home country was very hot. "Sounds like exactly the sort of place I need to live. Where it never really gets cold. Not like this. Winter is..." Though she trailed off, the scrunching of her face made her feelings clear. "I live next to water too. A lake. But it freezes over during the winter. Nice for ice skating and stuff, but mom always worries the ice is never thick enough." That felt ridiculous, given how damn cold it got up there. "Can you just wear shorts and sandals all year?" That sounded like the dream. She could wear cute dresses and enjoy the warmth of the sun all the time instead of having to concern herself with shielding against the biting winds.

Rhé asked if she wanted to have a drink, and Amirah was momentarily perplexed, unsure what the other meant. "You have something with you? Like a... flask, or a bottle?" That was her immediate interpretation of the question. "Or do you mean you want to go to a restaurant somewhere? I don't have any money on me." She didn't really get an allowance or anything for these short outings, so she relied on her parents to buy what she needed. Rhé explained that her guardian for the day was her... niece? That made Amirah's ten year old brain short circuit momentarily. "Wait, you're an aunt? At twelve?" Her brother was only two years older than her, so she didn't anticipate becoming an aunt anytime soon. Amirah wasn't even entirely sure how one became a parent. Pertaining to their present location, Rhé estimated they were in a divination shop of sorts. "That would explain the crystal balls. Wonder if a Seer runs this place." She'd never met one, though was curious about their ability to see the future. It'd be kind of cool to have her future read... as long as it was favourable, of course. The brunette squinted over at the funny symbols Rhé was examining. "I mean they teach us some stuff in school, but not this. They're cool-looking, though. Pass one here?" she asked, extending an open hand.

Amirah lived by a lake, that sounded awesome. Lake Nasser was a few kilometres from Aswan. But home lay along the Nile, build from the same materials from limestone, water and sand, but with better techniques of this era. Cold was anything below twenty degrees. Masses of people swore it with a shirt or a tanktop to dress, but Rhé would pull on a sweater. Winter is quite moderate with twenty to twenty-five degrees in daytime. The summer between thirty-five to forty-five degrees right under the sun, when there is no shadow. We keep mostly indoors then, our mornings and evenings are the moments for active life,” told Rhé. Yes, you can wear shorts and summer dress all year long. From October to April are the best months in Egypt. I feel pretty well if it’s thirty on the meter. It is dry heat.” It helped too to be deep tanned. But loose fitting clothes helped also the channel the air and keep cool.

Amirah seemed a bit in shock about having a drink. Was it not the normal way to ask? A drink was usually just water, back home. It was so automatically Rhé never considered the question. In the desert it was first thing you asked after greeting each other. Drinking you did throughout the day as it was so dry, to keep yourself hydrated. You don’t drink continue?” asked Rhé surprised in return. I have fresh bottles of water on me, I can share one to you. It’s yours.” From a little bag came two bottles and Rhé gave one to Amirah. The other kept Rhé self.

And amused Rhé shook the head over the aunt question. I am not an aunt. Nem’t mom and my mom are sisters, so she is my niece. Only she is grownup and pretty strict with me. She was ten years before me at Hogwarts. My magical watchdog is 28 years old.” Eager Rhé passed on the wooden chips to Amirah, who showed a keen interest and asked this to do. What is a Seer?” asked Rhé curiously as Amirah mentioned it. Sounds awesome you learn about this at school. You know what kind of these hieroglyphs on the wood are?”

'Moderate' was putting it lightly. Twenty degrees was full-fledge summertime in Sweden. The winter numbers were comparable, but with a big fat minus in front. Rhé insinuation was that there did reach a point where the heat was too much. Not something Amirah was used to experiencing up here. "That's where the water comes in handy. Me and my brother go swimming in the lake all the time during the summer." Well, except when he was gone to camp, but that was a more recent development. "Does Egypt have its own school?" she asked curiously. She knew there were more out there beyond Hogwarts, Durmstrang and Beauxbatons, but none that particularly came to mind. If there was a school down that way, she had to wonder why Rhé was attending Hogwarts.

Clearing up the confusion, Rhé pulled out two water bottles and offered one to her. "Oh. Thanks," she replied, accepting it. The brunette gave it a light shake, listening to the liquid sloshing around within. Uncapping the thing, the girl downed a few sips. "Handy that you had two," she remarked. "Or was this other one meant for the person watching over you?" She giggled a little at the thought of having stolen an adult's drink. It wasn't he problem if there was any fallout; Rhé had openly given it to her.

But just as things were starting to make sense again, Amirah's brow was back down over her eyes. What the girl was describing was a cousin, and yet she kept referring to them as a niece. Was Rhé just... confused? Was it a language barrier thing? Were cousins just not a thing that existed in Egypt? Whatever the reasoning, the ten year old did not have the energy to be arguing the point with this girl, so she left it be, simply noting that Rhé was not miraculously an aunt at the age of twelve. "I have a big family too. Most of my cousins are at school already, but a lot of them graduated a while back." She thought of the Wormalds in particular. Only Sophie, Sage, and Solenn were left. As she tucked her bottle into the space between her hip and the upholstered armrest, Rhé asked what a Seer was. "They can see into the future. They just get visions and can predict what's going to happen. My dad says that the predictions they make get put into a crystal ball and stored at the Ministry. Apparently there's a whole room of them. Why exactly, I don't know, but they don't let anyone go into that room." She knew that if she could predict the future, she'd be leveraging the ability for all it was worth. Both of her parents had a fancy ability, and Amirah craved one of her own to make her just that little extra bit special. The next question concerned the runes. Amirah gave a hum as she turned the one in her hand over, smoothing her fingers against the blank back. "They're runes. They come from the area I live in. Don't know how to read them or anything, but I've seen them around. They're some kind of old language," she explained. She looked back up at the other. "You haven't learned about them at Hogwarts yet?"

Chatting with the ten year old girl was much more fun than all those older girls and boys at Hogwarts. Maybe her lands were in the summer pleasant to be. I heard you have then sunshine all hours of the day? So it is possible just to sit outside and read something, without the need of a lamp. I can’t imagine it,” said Rhé.  Water came always in handy when it was too warm in the summer. But would Amirah consider the winters in Egypt too warm? But Rhé let the topic go, because it was pretty complex to comprehend in full. They moved on to the schools and Rhé felt on the chin to think and replied with a soft but high-toned voice: Not in Egypt, but there is one on the continent, called Wagadoo, or something. It is Uganda, tropical country around the equator. There is a school in South-America I know off, in Japan and in Russia.” More schools was Rhé not able to sum up and neither had discussed yet of others existant with students or heard from professors in the first year.

Rhé shook firm the head over the question Amirah’s bottle was meant for niece Nem’t. She has her own stash of bottles, handy to lift off her with some puppy eyes of me,” grinned Rhé over the thought, having done it a lot of times and always worked, with an admonishing to bring own bottles. Amirah had a big family. Her frown made Rhé realise there was a little explanation. It is not around here, but in Arabic we barely have gender neutral words. Niece is a girl or woman to us, nephew is a boy or man. It was not in our past, but since Christianity came and later the Islam, men and women roles are sharp divided. And also how we live.” Rhé was used to it, to be surrounded by women and eat with them at feasts. But in the close family unit they all ate together.

Amirah knew what Seers were and Rhé listened curiously, stashing it away in memory. Where there Egyptian Seers? She told also a room at a ministry with glass balls. And how predictions can be stashed in them. Rhé nodded, but understood a very little of it all and let the subject drop off. It was all quite unimaginable, but still asked: You like to be a Seer?” The runes, as they were called, was far more interesting and Rhé recalled there was a topic at school about them. It was understandable they spoke to Amirah as they were part of her past. But that was not for Rhé. Old language? Ah, I  see. If you learn them, you can read the texts of the past. No, I haven’t. They are of interest to your area. But not where I live. My dad give me copies of old papyrus texts or photos made in pyramids, to translate Egyptian back to Arabic.” Rhé popped the bottle open and drank a few swallows away, until it was half empty. “We get a lot of tourists, so dad thinks we could do live action play of an Egyptian court. So he asked me to write a draft for the play, and I might get a role into it.”

For a second, Amirah wondered what Rhé was referring to, but then she remembered. Ah yes, midnight was indeed a thing up north. "Oh, yeah. Not where I live, but if you go farther north, it happens around spring and summer. Never gotten to see it myself, but it must be pretty cool. It'd be the perfect excuse to get my parents to allow me to stay up all night." Because it wasn't 'night', per se. One day she'd experience it. Maybe when she was all grown up and able to venture wherever she pleased. Right now, her journeys hinged entirely on her ability to persuade her parents... and she wasn't always successful on that front, especially with her mother. "But I've heard there are places where it's always night. That would be cool too, but it would be a lot colder without any sun." Pertaining to the other schools, Rhé recalled the name of the African one, and Amirah couldn't help a giggle. "That's a fun one to say. If I went there, I don't think I'd ever stop saying it. Wagadoo, Wagadoo, Wagadoo... Oh, and there's the one in America. Morning-Something." Her lips twisted into a small smile. "Nifty that you get to go to Hogwarts, though, instead of that Wagadoo. Means I'll see you there when I start next year. I doubt I'll be in Hufflepuff, though." She didn't truly know where she'd end up, but Hufflepuff held the least likelihood for this brunette. She had a little too much mischief in her body for that.

Rhé explained that niece and nephew basically just meant 'female relative' and 'male relative'. "Huh, interesting." It was a tidbit she'd undoubtedly share with her parents later, to get their perspective on it. Her parents knew quite a lot, after all, even if Amirah sometimes liked to pretend she knew more. Rhé then asked if she'd like to be a Seer. "Of course. It would be cool. Seeing into the future? I could do all the right things to get the outcome I want. And," she added, smile morphing into a smirk, "I could probably make some money by predicting other people's futures. I've heard some people would pay a lot of money for that." Spare cash of her own she could use to buy whatever she wanted. It sounded like the dream. "My mom and dad have fancy abilities, but not seeing into the future. They say I could end up with one too, but I won't find out until later." Which was a bit of a bummer, but she had no choice but to be patient. Amirah cocked her head when Rhé brought up plays. "You write plays? Oh, there's a theatre club at Hogwarts, isn't there? Are you part of that?" It seemed like the logical place for the girl.

The barking watchdog was not appearing as yet. They might have chosen a good spot to be found so easily. Chatting with Amirah was pleasantly and Rhé enjoyed it as other girls would. Was there yet another school in America? It could be? Interesting, there might be thousands of magical children in the world then. More than I realised,” said Rhé nodding. Amirah mentioned to be there next year too. I think it would be fun if it had been this year. But yes, I had to wait also till my eleventh birthday. Ravenclaw and Gryffindor are two good houses too, to be in. Slytherin is bit questionable, but there are really cool and kind students in there. But even in my own house I am not friends with everyone.” It was bit of a sad side effect, but so it had been in the school before too.

Amirah wanted to become a Seer, which was admirable.  Rhé nodded and grinned. There are Divination classes at Hogwarts and there is a big library too.” Until now there hadn’t been a reason to come actually there. But there might come a time in the future. Seers could make a lot of money, and the girl seemed to have it well thought out. Rhé couldn’t if it was true, but didn’t want to steal the dream.  I will try to write a draft for a play yes. But I am not part of the theatre club at Hogwarts.” Rhé shook the head over that detail. Artistic there was a lot of exploration to do and all Rhé had done so far was mostly historical and archaeological work. And though it was mostly around burial places, the Egyptians had left lots of written details behind, that gave a clear picture from a distant past.

Amirah had to believe there were a lot of wizarding kids too. Even if her witchiness did make her feel special compared to the average Muggle. How sad their existences must be without the wonders of magic. The girl simply couldn't fathom it. Amirah was reminded yet again that she was not yet eleven. her birthday truly could not come quickly enough, and now that her start at Hogwarts was so close to being within reach, it felt as thought time moved even slower somehow. But she had no power over the speed at which time moved. No witch or wizard did, unfortunately. "My brother's in Gryffindor, so maybe I'll end up there," she replied with a shrug. "But I think it'd be fun to get to compete against him." Nothing like some amicable sibling rivalry, no? Not sharing a common room also meant he couldn't fret over her quite so much. "Do you have a lot of friends at school? I'll know some people already from preschool, but I'll probably make some more friends too." People who perhaps had a likemindedness with her, and might co-sign on some subtle shenanigans.

She knew about the Divinations classes. Staring into a crystal ball and all that. "I might check them out, just to see what it's all about. My brother's not a very big fan of it," she stated with a snort. The image of him staring hard into a tea cup was quite funny. Apparently, though she wrote plays, Rhé had no involvement in Hogwarts's theatre club. "Are you part of any clubs?" she asked. "I plan on joining a few. And the Quidditch team. I need to practice when my cousin comes back home for the summer, but I'm totally gonna make it onto my house's team." Of that, she was confident. She didn't have her own broom, but the school had a bunch she could use. her brother had confirmed as much.

Amirah’s brother was in Gryffindor and she suspected to be in there as well. Rhé smiled: I have heard rumour of if you keep in mind wanting with house while the Hat is on your head, it might grant. Not certain, but it happened. I had hope to join in Hufflepuff, because of the yellow colour, symbolical to the sun and the sand, and it happened for me. I am happy in there. I hope that you will get in the house you want to be. And in different houses doesn’t matter so much, there are meeting occasions between hours, at the meals and even in lessons.” Yet it remained to be seen how the second year would turn out for Rhé. But being twelve there were no logical reasons to think why it would turn bad. I went too to a preschool in Egypt with other magical children. But all of them did go to Wagadoo and not like me to Hogwarts.” Rhé nodded. I made  a friend with Hunter, who is in Slytherin and as old as me. And I know some other boys and girls from the other houses to hang out with.”

Not that many friends Rhé had yet, and much older kids were no friends but nice and friendly knowing. But there was one Rhé had good memories by. “Last year I was guided by an older boy, named Kai, who was my mentor to get around in the house, was introduced to others and played a few games with.” Rhé listened to what she said about the crystal balls and her brother not liking them. She would have the ball to herself then, to try out and see if it worked for. The clubs were another issue Rhé was not yet certain off. “This is just my second year, maybe there is a nice club to join. I would like to be on the team, but first I take broom lessons. I can’t fly a single meter yet. Dad promised if I do my best and score an excellent result, then he sent me a broom. If I do not, I have to fly the school brooms.” Rhé found it quite difficult being wedged with this choice. But the pressure from home to the very best, was put on the other siblings too.Perhaps a cooking club is nice for me, but I don’t know. Do you have an idea in which club you would like to be?”

Amirah nodded. "I've heard that too. My brother really wanted to get into Gryffindor cause that's where most of his friends were." And lo and behold, that's where he'd ended up. She didn't know what house she'd really ask for. She had no strong affiliation to any of them, because she had family members in all of them except Hufflepuff. Rhé was right that it didn't really matter. Aside from being forced to wear that colour every day within your uniform, of course. For that reason, she perhaps had a slight bias towards Slytherin, because green was far and away the coolest colour of the four. Rhé brought up her preschool in Egypt, and Amirah could no longer ignore the question on her mind. "Why are you going to Hogwarts? Did your parents go there too?" Aside from geography, that was the reason most people went, in her experience. The other then brought up a familiar name. "Oh, I know Hunter! She's nice. Roasted marshmallows with her over the holidays." She was another presence Amirah would get to reunite with next year.

By the sounds of it, Rhé had not joined any clubs, but had an interest too. She still had six years to indulge in that anyway. The other girl did bring up a cooking club. "They have one of those? Huh." Not something Amirah would personally sign up for, but she was sure it would lead to a lot of yummy foods eaten. "Me? I'd have to see what there is, but I wanna join the music club. Mostly cause I want to learn to play electric guitar. I could do theatre too, but it depends on what kind of plays they put on. After—" Amirah abruptly cut herself off, watching the front door open with a jingle of the bell. "Uh oh." Her mother's gaze swept over the place. Amirah bounded up from the chair. "Uh, nice meeting you, Rhé. Gotta go!" She gave the other a rushed wave before scampering over to her mother to pretend like she hadn't been hiding out in here. The less questions her mother asked, the better, even if she hadn't gotten up to any trouble.

So it was really true that the Hat would grant your wish. Her brother would be well off in Gryffindor. Rhé was not sure having met him, but he was surely around. The girl Hunter was a mutual friend then, by the hears of it. Cool, I can tell her I met you,” said Rhé with a grin. Hunter was real kind and a good friend to hang out with, have fun. “My parents didn’t go to a magical school, nor are my siblings going. I am the only one. But I have magical aunts and uncles, and they saw I met to preschool. We are a mixed family, of wizards and mundane people. My dad wasn’t born with it.” Rhé shook the head. “I am bit of an exception.” But as the bell of the shop went, first came in Amirah’s mom and behind her Rhé’s watchdog. That is niece Nem’t,” said Rhé quickly. See you, we write. Okay?” It was a fast question and left unanswered. But Amirah surely heard it. She said her goodbye as well.

Rhé hoped she would be in the music club, but if she could play an electrical guitar? But perhaps if it was magically enchanted? Amirah was picked up by her mother and Rhé faced an angry niece, who could actually be an aunt, due that she was thirteen years older that the young Puff of twelve. You walked out on me. What have you been up to? Busy with mischief? Lifted something?” she said in quick Arabian on an angry tone that told as much it was a lecture.I’ll report this to your parents and they will see if you get punishment for disobedience.” Life was pretty strict at home in Egypt and it was not so fine to be reminded of that. Nem’t had the role of parent in England and was responsible for Rhé. With a deep sigh the student followed Nem’t, and rolled eyes to Amirah when they passed her and her mom on the street.
