Dear Members,

We know that many of you will likely have questions about the upcoming closure of Durmstrang and Sweden on Hogwarts Online. This forum provides you with an opportunity to seek answers to all of your questions about this process and how it may impact you or your characters.

Q: When is Durmstrang officially closing?

A: December 31, 2019

Q: Why was this decision made?

A: This decision was not an easy one and it took several months to come to decision about what to do, however ultimately we decided that it would serve the long term interests of the site to return our focus to one area of the wizarding world.

Q: Will international schools ever be reintroduced?

A: At this moment, the Governors do not have any plans to reintroduce any international schools to the site outside of potential Summer program activities.

Q: How will transfers work?

A: Durmstrang students who want to transfer will have a topic available prior to Fall Term where they can declare their intent to transfer and preferred Hogwarts House. Adults will have their own topic. All professors will be able to apply for a teaching position when Fall applications open.

Q: What if a teaching department is full?

A: We will do our best to make comparable teaching positions available to Durmstrang professors who choose to transfer.

Q: Will I be considered for Prefect if I transfer?

A: Yes! All Fall Term transfers will be eligible to immediately become a Prefect or Head Student at Hogwarts.

Q: Can I move my house?

A: Yes, you may move your house, but you may also leave it where it is an it will not be removed provided it is active.

Q: Can I move my shop?

A: Yes, shops can be moved to the UK if you wish, all active shops in Sweden will remain open as RP only areas.

Q: What if there are no comparable positions available?

A: Some positions will not be available immediately, but we will do our best to provide all transfers with a comparable position if possible. Regardless, we will work very hard to make sure everyone is placed in the area that best suits their skill set.

Q: Are we going to receive an actual reason? Or just the bureaucractic spiel?
A: When I introduced Durmstrang and Beauxbatons to the site several years ago we had an average of 600 members online every day. Today, we have an average of 130 on a good day. The necessity to downsize has been writing on the wall for a couple of years now and as Hogwarts has always been our central school it is the area of the site that we are returning to now in the hopes of keeping the site active for longer. It is no longer cost effective or viable to have more than one school or country open.

Hope this covers everything, Katy.

-Of course it doesn’t, but no surprise there.

Feel free to message me privately to continue the discussion.

For what it is worth, thank you so much to Prof. Jared Wayland. You worked your butt off during the changes and recent adaptations. Durmstrang closes with a very qualified leader, and we'll always look up to you with deep respect and appreciation for all you've done.

Love you, Lainey <3

It is quite sad to see another school/region close, guess the least I can say is congratulation and thank you for all the hard work of the members who kept Sweden & Durmstrang running until this day and hope this decision is indeed for the better. With that been said, I have a question:

Q: How will the transfer system work, I mean, will it count for the number limit of characters or will the same policy of Beauxbâtons be used for Durmstrang? And what about adults? Because I know there are a few members that have quite a few characters alumni and non-official alumni in those regions, so is good to clarify those aspects, so we all know what to expect.

A: The Governor board is currently discussing how to best adjust the rules about character limits in response to this change. We plan to accommodate members who currently have adults/students/non-alumni in Sweden and will provide more information about how future character limits will work closer to that time. Until then, it is safe to say the characters you currently have will remain yours regardless of the current rule.

Q: For those with senior year students would they be able to transfer once the topic is available?

A: Once the transfer topic has been created anyone who wants to tranfser immediately may do so (Senior Students/Canon Students/Etc all apply), those who wish to remain and finish out the duration may do so as well.

Q: What if a certain group member wants to remain in the same group? For ex: Swedish Artist wants to stay as Swedish Artist . Will we be given that option like the French have?

A: If you would like to keep your character Swedish you can move to the international wizard group and Sweden will still be available.

After Dec 2019 there will still be some students who may not be able to graduate. I am a first year and I would like to graduate from Durmstrang. Is there a way to do so? Will the governors come up with some way or consider it?

A: Anyone who has accumulated enough quills to graduate can do so at the end of December regardless of their year. Students below 4th year may also advance more than one year per term if they wish or drop out and become adults.

1. To graduate we need IMPS so will we able to do them in advance since I will be a 6th year next term and even if i do get the required amount of quills, students who are 7th only give the exams. Will there be some sort of option for us?

2. If my student is 5th year by the end of Dec 2019, but has the required quills to graduate, but does not have IMPS and Internships... Do they get to graduate as alum?

A: You can move up your character to a 7th year provided you acquire 3 quills needed to move up to a 6th year. You can take both your internship and IMPs next term so there should be no problem to graduate your character.
