The other thread was kind of about the general "what college are you going to and what major" thing, just general talk about the colleges.

I thought there should be a thread for those of us that are going to college in the fall. (Also known as about 2 months from now!) Talk about how we're feeling in the upcoming weeks and then during the first few weeks of school.

I'm really excited to be going, but also kind of nervous... What are you guys really nervous or really excited about?

(If I wasn't supposed to post this. then I'm sorry!)

I'm feeling the same as you! I'm scared to death, but excited! I'm majoring in Nursing. I have to do ALL of my Pre-Req and General Ed. courses first before I can even think about applying for the ADN (RN) program. I graduated in 2011 from HS, and took a break for a year. Now I'm going back.

So nervous to get back in the hang of school.

I just graduated in June, and I'm going to a school that's 4 hours from home. I've only ever been away from my parents 3 times in my life (not including staying over at someone else's house; I'm taking long term) so that will be different.

Some friends are saying that I'm taking on too much this semester with a 6 class load. What I'm most scared of, however, are exams in December. We already have the exam schedule, and I have to take 3 on the first day!

Oh my! That does sound like a pretty big load, 6 classes. Well it's about the same for me - I'm taking 5. Psychology, a physical activity class, Music Fundamentals (extra curricular), Anatomy & Physiology, and Int. Algebra (Remedial). Two face to face classes, and 3 online. I would only be taking 4 if I didn't have to take a remedial math course (not my strongest subject!) But oh well.

4 hours is a pretty good distance! My school is just about 30 minutes away.

And I am too also afraid of exams. My biggest fear though is writing! I'm a terrible writer. And I know being in college is going to require a lot of it. Ugh. That's why I'm saving English Comp. til' next semester! Lol. Do you know what you're going to major in yet?

I'm planning on majoring in Creative Writing. This semester, I'm taking Intro to Psychology, Writing I, Creative Writing I, World Literature I, Thinking About Literature, and Future Trends. Lots of English, lots of writing, but I'm very much ready for it!

I took a math class during senior year that I received college credit for. Since I only need 1 math credit for my degree, I won't need to take it at all in college!

My biggest fear is definitely the bathroom situation. Since I'll be living on campus, I'll have to try to figure out how the bathroom system works and how to conquer it. They didn't show us the bathrooms when we went for the tour; I wish I had asked to see it that day, but it slipped my mind. I'm a bigger person, so the bathroom issue (mainly the showering part, since I don't know the set up) is causing some anxiety because of the size factor. But I'll get over that soon, I'm sure!

I'm eager to get my college shopping done now for a few reasons. Not only for peace of mind and ample time to get whats needed, but also so we can determine if we need to bring my grandfather's truck instead of one of my parents' cars to bring everything. That seems to be my mom's biggest concern.

Oh that sounds like fun! I would enjoy writing a little more if I was any good at it. But sadly, I'm not. Lol.

I'm just going to be going to a community college. So I can commute back and forth every other day. During High School, I planned on going to The University of Texas. (I live in Texas, lol.) But that kind of got shot out the window after I had my little boy and got married so young. But it's ok! Everything happens for a reason. I'm just excited that I even get the chance to start back school anywhere.

Freshman year is terrifying. All I recommend is find a good, solid group of friends! They'll get you through everything!!

I think I'll be good after the first semester, since I'll be pretty acclimated with my surroundings and how college works by then.

Good luck on your first year of college to you both! I am going into my sophomore year and I am so relieved to be getting back. The first few weeks are scary as heck, but afterwards you get used to it and really enjoy the independence. I definitely agree with Estella on finding a good group of friends. I always have a hard time making friends, so I went greek! It may be something to consider looking into. I admit, its not for everyone, but its a great way to make friends quickly, and their really is a chapter for everyone. But... ya, I'm gonna stop rambling. If you need any advice feel free to PM me or yahoo or whatever, I am more than happy to help :)

That's saddening! My writer just transferred from a small local private college to a larger university for Physics. It's like starting as a Freshman all over again and I'm a junior!

You don't like the place you go to school? Why not? I love my school! Both of them! The first one I went to was a catholic-affiliated private commuter school that focused majorly on education, which was great for me since that's what I went to school for, and I did clubs there. My new school has an activity going on almost every day, it's like a little town of it's own! It's so nice and makes me feel productive. How is it creepy?

My writer has considered joining the orientation team but has way too much other stuff going on to do that. I recommend joining clubs though. At my first college, I was part of the drama club and that's how I made all my friends. When I transferred, I joined the Harry Potter club on campus: Dumbledore's Army. But with all the work I now do, I don't really have time for it. Clubs are great though, since they'll really help out with the social aspect of being in college. Or Fraternities and Sororities if you're that type of person that likes those!

What size is your school, Fern? My first college was roughly the size of a large high school, 1200 students not including grad students. They had a quidditch club (which was different since they didn't go to games to compete). The college I go to now has a muggle quidditch team, but most of those students don't care nor have they ever seen or watched Harry Potter. They just like it because it's brutal.
