OOC:

Hello,

my question is, can a single charrie have two or more jobs?

For example, can a healer be a Healer and a Professor, or Healer and Shop Keeper? I remember some time ago, it was said that Professors could not be shop keepers and such, but now I am not sure.

I'm asking because there are people applying to get jobs as Healers when they already have other jobs And want to keep their other jobs.

Can a governor please confirm this?

Thank you!

I've sent your question to a governor who will be coming on as soon as they can to answer this.

Not sure which gov will be answering this question, but I did want to give some insight based on what I've discovered. In the UK, I require shopkeepers to only be shopkeepers and not have other jobs. However, in France and Sweden, there are cases of people having two jobs - professor and shopkeeper, dark wizard (though that's more of just a title than a job), and the like. It's always shopkeeping as a secondary job. I'm not sure if this practice is acceptable or if you're supposed to be picking one of the other, so the governor who answers will be able to give a definitive answer.

As far as being a professor and another job, that's a no. Not because I want to be mean, but because being a professor is a lot more responsibility than many other jobs on the site, and also because if they're in multiple maskings, it will cause glitches in the office and becomes more trouble than its worth. They can always just say they do the other profession they're interested in as a hobby on the side.

When it comes to other jobs, here's my two cents: being in a specific masking, i.e. Artist or Astronomer constitutes a full-time job that you are paid for via the bank. I know there are some glitches lately, but that is the plan. To try to add in another group is highly illogical because it's nearly impossible to work two full-time jobs in the real world, and on top of that, the way the bank works, you would be getting paid for both jobs when you're most likely only fulfilling the responsibilities of one (healers, for example, are supposed to be posting in their hospital or clinic, taking care of patients, which usually leaves very little time for say, studying stars as an astronomer). Dark wizards are the exception to the rule, however, as you do not get paid for being evil or causing mayhem. So I *do* think it's okay to have that as one's secondary group on top of a different career group.

In short, no I don't think it's okay to have two career groups, but that's not to say you can't have a job and rp out doing other things as a hobby, that's the beauty of character development. :)

Is this rule, for lack of a better word, waived during the summer term? I see all manner of adults teaching during this term and who don't normally teach during the rest of the year (not just recently but in past years on HO too).

A lot of people apply to teach during the summer because sometimes they don't have time to take on a class during the regular school year. Many people apply to teach a summer class because you can basically teach almost anything and decide what it is. Sometimes with regular academic classes, you don't get to decide the course material, and you have to stick to a certain subject area. So some people just like to teach only during the summer and then not for the rest of the school year.

Sometimes people apply to teach a summer class and just use one of their other adults and move them to teaching, and then move them out later. If they don't plan on staying, some don't think it's worth it to create a whole other character just to teach a class. Some like to do it on adult accounts that already exist.

I don't think that means the rule is waived. You would be seeing a lot of people come on during the summer and then not stay during the rest of the year. It's not really because of rules, it's just because of people's work/school schedules and that the academic terms require different things to be taught. Teaching during the school year, or regular academic terms, also has a lot more expectations from instructors than during the summer term. The summer term is a just-for-fun term; that's why people come and teach, and then leave after the summer term. As a summer instructor, you don't work under a department chair, you don't have other school-related duties, etc. More is expected of you during the academic terms.
