My profile shows me as a second year but the office shows me as a 3rd year. Anyone else have this problem?

Obviously one of them is wrong. Which one are you, are you really a 2nd Year, or are you really a 3rd Year?

It appears you are actually a second year, because you have quills from Spring, then Winter, which means you have been here for two terms.

I am going to figure that the reason it says you are a third year in the office is because of a new system that has to do with quills and year move-ups that has been put in place. I will see about getting this resolved.

Actually, because students start off as first years someone who has earned at least 6 quills over two terms is a third year (unless they requested not to move up). Violet earned 9 quills in Winter 2011, making her a second year in the next term (Spring). Then in Spring 2011 she earned 6 quills, making her a third year for Summer Term, right now. Violet, I suspect this is human error on Prof. Dakota Kane's part, completely understandable seeing how he moves up about one billion and one students every term by himself. You should PM him about getting this problem corrected on the forum.

Quinn Akins might be due to the fact that Dakota moved him up 2 years so he was in the same year as his twin Willow.although I think her office still says she is a second year, and she definitely isnt.that might be wrong though.

but please dont resort quinn as a second year.

thanks!

i don't know if this is the proper topic to ask since my problem is of a different nature but i might as well continue... there are quill errors in my office. actually, i have like, four NEWT quills or so, yet i haven't taken the NEWTs. i think it was sent to the wrong office because my recently graduated puff alumni have no NEWT quill and I had finished her NEWTs, so yeah. i think the quills should be hers, instead of mine, is there any way to fix this?

Thank you Rehema, I obviously wasn't thinking clearly. Yes, just contact Dakota and ask him to fix the year on the forums. He should be able to fix it. ( Just ask very very nicely tongue.gif )

Breck, that is something you would want to take up with Chauncey, as he is the one who could get rid of those.

I thought students weren't allowed to move up more than a year per term? I could be wrong but I thought this was the case to keep people from moving up too quickly?

Penny is correct the Quill system used to work that way whent he site was originally started if you got 9 Quills you got ot move up to 3rd year, but they changed it around 2008/2009 and made it 1 year per term, no exceptions, no discussion, and no arguments was the rule placed down. Because students were doing tons of classes and becoming 5th years in 6 months and graduating in 9. The site would be so much less fun with only Alumni running around all of the time.

So you start as 1st year and can only move up once per term.

So now I am totally confused. Is it a office error or forum error?

I have a problem that's somewhat related, though I'm not sure but I'll just try asking here anyway. My office shows I'm a 6th year, while I'm still listed as a 5th year here on the forums (And I'm pretty sure I still am having only completing 2 out of the minimum of 3 required OWLs to pass.) However, I received the OWL quill (Which I'm guessing is only given if one completes the required OWLs, allowing him to move on to 6th year?) Now I'm confused by this, even though I believe I'm still a 5th year. Any help or ideas on fixing this?

Send a PM to Prof. Dakota Kane

He deals with move ups on the forum and in the office, if there are any issues with them he is who you should speak with. He will fix any problems right up.

Yes you could only move up once per term but if you are a twin then you can move up depending on the other twin since twins are supposed to be in the same year.
