Hello all!
With the spring term concluded, many of you will now be looking ahead to the summer term, whether for your students' year progression or perhaps to teach. For the past several years, summer has meant a visit to Camp Avalon for all those seeking to participate. This year, however, marks the forum's 20th year of existence (can you believe it?) and instead of repeating the usual routine, we'd like to offer you all something different and a little extra special in honour of this big milestone.
From June 22nd until August 9th, we will be hosting a summer-long anniversary event instead of camp! All site members, from adults to students and children, will be able to join in on the fun. A wide variety of OOC activities and games will be on offer, and on the RP side of things, a site-wide plot will take place!
I won't say too much as to not spoil the surprise before the 22nd, but I assure you all that students will still be able to earn quills and move up. Likewise, those set to graduate will be able to do so as planned. OWLs and NEWTs will still be offered, and students will be able to earn quills via OOC activity submissions and plot participation. This summer anniversary event does not impede your progress, but merely offers you a different and fun way to earn your quills instead of the standard class format you've all grown accustomed to.
To tide you all over for the next weeks until the event's launch, here are some answers to some questions you might currently have. More will be revealed once the event starts on June 22nd.
What's happening to Camp Avalon?
The camp forum will not be appearing this summer, but that doesn't mean it won't be appearing during future summers. We're breaking from the norm this summer, not getting rid of camp altogether.
As far as your character is presently aware from an in-character perspective, however, camp is still happening and is looming on the horizon. Come June 22nd, more story details about the camp's fate this summer will be revealed.
Do I need to get a cabin sorting?
Not this summer, no. There will be no cabin assignment sign-up this year.
Will I be able to earn quills this summer?
Yes! Students will be able to earn quills through a few different means: completing OWLs or NEWTs, completing a summer job, participating in OOC activities, and participating in the site-wide plot. Which avenues you choose to take will be entirely up to you. More information on each of these avenues will be released on June 22nd.
Will I be able to move up this summer?
Yes! Move-ups will open on August 10th, and those with enough quills will be able to move up to the next year.
Will I be able to graduate this summer?
Absolutely! NEWTs will be open for enrolment, and those who successfully complete them will be resorted to an adult after August 9th. As per usual, you are welcome to say your character had a graduation ceremony, but none will actually be RPed. There will not be a summer graduation topic.
What about house / cabin points? Are we still earning something for activities and RP challenges?
This summer, we'll be shaking up the points system a little. A competition will indeed still take place, but it will be between two factions—the adults and the students/children. The oldies vs. the youngins. All event RPCs, activity submissions, summer job posts, and Non-Hogwarts RP Challenges will yield points towards this. The winner of the two groups will be announced after the end of term on August 9th, and either the adults or the students and kids will get a shiny signature button to tout their victory.
Do I need to sign up to participate in the plot or summer event?
No sign-ups are required. Once the event is live, simply peruse the topics as you wish, read the guidelines, and participate however you see fit, with any characters of your choosing. The more the merrier!
