Greetings & Salutations,
For the second time in the last month, the Governors have discussed the increased prevalence of AI generated content at Hogwarts Online. It goes without saying that there are probably many differing opinions on this subject, but the Governors have always tried to take a "if it doesn't ruin the fun, don't interfere" approach to site rules. Unfortunately, it appears that now some members' fun is being ruined and we have had no choice but to take an official stance on this topic.
AI is a very useful tool that can be utilized to spark creativity, inspire great story ideas, and yes, fill in some gaps in posts that seem a little bare bones. Where AI starts to suck the air out of the room is when it allows members to game the system, accrue points at a rate they would otherwise not be capable of doing, and taking up an overwhelming majority of a member's posts.
So, going forward, the following will be added to the rulebook and we are introducing a new, but fitting punishment for violators of this rule. I advise anyone who utilizes AI to read carefully:
"AI may not constitute more than 50.01% of a members post when competing against other members during site activities. This includes Quidditch, RP Challenges, Library Games, OOC Games, Duels, Class Posts, and any other activity for which an award is given.
AI may still be used for normal posts throughout the site.
If, at any time, it is suspected by or reported to a Governor, Head of House, Professor, or other site moderator, the Governors reserve the right to run the reported/suspected post through AI Detection Software. If 50.01% of that post is found to be comprised of content generated by AI, the member is subject to suspension from participating in the activities described above for a period of time to be determined by the Governors but no less than 1 week.
Repeat offenders may be permanently suspended or, depending on the severity of the offense, suspended from the site altogether."
Please note, there is no "1st warning" -- this is your first and only warning. It doesn't make me happy to have to make this rule, but Hogwarts Online is meant to be a place where people can write, enjoy themselves, relax, and have fun. The moment it stops being fun, we will act to correct that.
This rule is effective immediately.
Sincerely,
The Governors
