6. House Points

6.1 Earning House Points

House points can be given or docked by Governors, Heads of Houses, Professors, Head Students, or Prefects. Points can be given for completing homework assignments, helping new students or other acts of service. On that same note, points can also be deducted for varies reasons. ALL house points must verified by the governors.

Assignment Points:

All assignments completed for classes gain house points. All professors are required to give house points for each assignment turned in. See Point Limits for details on the maximum amount of points aloud to be given at one time or in one term.

Advertising Points:

Show your school pride by placing Hogwarts Online images/banners/urls in your MySpace, LiveJournal, Xanga, or other personal website and earn house points! Simply add this code, then contact your Head of House with the link that the banner is on and recieve 25 House Points! Easy as that. Also if you are on another forum (non-HP of course) you can place the banner in your signature, and also receive 25 points. No more than 25 points can be awarded at a time.

Quidditch Points:

Houses which win a quidditch match will earn house points for their win. The total number of points the house has won from the game, is the total number of points awarded to the house as soon as the match has ended.

Internal House Points:

Heads of House can award internal house points on a limited basis. Because there is no real way to gage the fairness of points awarded, it is strongly suggested against awarding internal house points. Internal house points would be points awarded for house projects, house websites, house banners, etc. The most that a Head of House can award for any internal house points is 100 points.

Library Submission:

The Hogwarts Online Library is ALWAYS looking for new writters for books to be stocked on the library book shelves. The Head Librarian can award points to deserving individuals. The maximum number of points that the librarian can award is 500 points. The points are awarded at the discretion of the librarian.

Other Points:

Students can also earn house points by being a Teacher's Aid, write an article for the school newspaper, competing in competitions, showing your house trait, or any other way a governor, head of house, professor, head student or prefect might find fitting.

6.2
Submitting House Points

Professors can submit house points in their Professor Office. Head Students & Prefects can submit points in their Student Office. For information on the maximum amount of points aloud to be given at once, please see Point Limits for detailed information on the maximum number of points that can be given at one time or in one term.

6.3
Point Limits

General Points:

The maximum number of points that may be given to any student at any time is 100 points. No single award of points should go above this maximum number.

Classes:

Throughout the term, professors may only submit a maximum of 500 points per student. However the professor chooses to break down these points is up to them. Keeping in mind however, that no point submission at any one time for any student is greater than 100 points.

Teacher Assistant:

Professors may only give T.A.'s a maximum of 50 points per month. If a T.A. does not do their job, then they may not receive the points. If they do their job well then you may award them no more than 50 points.

Advertising Points:

By sending your Head of House a link to any advertisement you've posted for Hogwarts Online (See Section 6.1) you can be awarded no more than 25 points.

Internal House Points:

The most that a Head of House can award for any internal house points is 100 points.

Library Submission Points:

The maximum number of points that the librarian can award is 500 points. The points are awarded at the discretion of the librarian.

6.4
House Cup

The House Cup is given in June which is at the end of each school year. The house cup goes to the house that accumulates the most house points by the end of the year.

6.5
Discipline

Disciplinary actions are divided into three categories: Minor Offenses, which receive minor punishments such as detention or point deduction; Major Offences, which require more severe punishments such as suspension, expulsion, or a court hearing from the ministry; the final category is Repeat Offenses, which are taken as serious as major offenses.

All types of offenses can be broken down into two categories, role play & real life. Generally role play offenses are preplanned or approved and are still punished by in a different sense.

6.5.1
Minor Offenses

Minor offenses in role play would be punishable by detention or docking of points. Minor offenses in real life are also punishable by detention, or docking of points. Minor offenses include but not limited to not turning in assignments, causing drama, spamming (see 5.7 Spamming), inappropriate signature, or posting in another houses chat box. Generally minor offenses are punishable by any professor, head student, or prefect.

6.5.2
Major Offenses

Major offenses in role play include but are not limited to the use of dark magic, murdering, or talking back to a person in power. Any offense that deals with dark magic or murder is punishable by the Ministry of Magic. Usually a court proceeding is required. Other major offenses are handed down by the person's Head of House. Major offenses in real life are punishable by both the Governors and the students Head of House.

Suspension

Governors or Heads of Houses can choose to suspend a persons account without anyone's approval for up to 7 days for any offense the Governor or Head of House feels necessary.

Expulsion

No one, including the headmistress may expel/ban any member of Hogwarts Online without a majority vote by the Governors board. The only member group that has the power to expel/ban is the Governors board. If anyone bans without a majority governors vote, the perpetrator will be removed from his/her post. NO EXCEPTIONS. (Note, there is a difference between banning the IP and deleting the character. Expulsion/Banning entails a permanent deletion from the site.)

An expelled student is only allowed back in when all of the Governors and the Head of the expelled student's House unanimously support this.

6.5.3
Repeat Offenses

The repeat of a minor offense would make the offence a major offense. Therefore a once minor offense that has been repeated could receive a major offense punishment. Note: there is no such thing as a repeat Major Offense, the offender is simply banned by the governors board.

6.5.4
Disrespect

Hogwarts Online is now taking a Zero Tolerance Policy against disrespect towards anyone in power. Disrespect is a major offence This means that you are to treat Governors, Professors, Staff, Head students, & Prefects with respect. Talking back or being disrespectful will result in an immediate 7 day suspension from the site.

This includes real life (RL). If you disrespect a person listed above in Instant message, email, or Out Of Character (OOC) you will be supsended, no questions asked. Role play disrespect is a bit different due to the fact that it might be preplanned. Disrespect in role play will be punishable only by the person that has been disrespected.

However, those in power are in no way aloud to abuse power. If a person is power is abusing power you are to report the power abuse to a governor as soon as the abuse happens.
