Tag: Reid.

When Lorcan came back to work, she did so prematurely. She just couldn't stand to sit around the house any longer. Truth be told, it was maddening and a little disconcerting. Following her awoke from slumber, everything had been a constant struggle. Not only did she endure awful, mind numbing migraines, but she had to relearn how to use every single muscle in her body. She had never felt so incapacitated before and the struggle to do simple tasks like walking up and down the stairs made her feel much more hostile than she had anticipated. She had left St. Mungo's quite prematurely as well. She had signed that form that basically stated she was leaving against healer's wishes and faced not only Diana's reproach, but Harley's and her parents' as well but she didn't care. She had spent more than enough time confined to the bed, staring at the white ceiling, learning basic things like how to drink water from the straw and learning how to move her fingers.

Going home simply meant that she could relearn all those things in private, where she didn't feel the shame of turning into a child over again with peering eyes expecting a fast recovery that at times she didn't know she could deliver. Needless to say, Diana spent more than her fair share of time helping her and doing this and that for her. She was surprisingly a patient caregiver, not displaying her impatience at all when she struggled to keep the spoon steady or when a miscalculation of her hand movement resulted in a spill all over their white carpets. She cleaned and she worked and she took care of her without complaint. She was sure that in the days the followed Diana slept as little as Lorcan did. Lorcan, however, pretended to be asleep but the reality was there was nothing that could help her relax. While the incident was over, all she could see when she closed her eyes were Mathias' hateful eyes staring back at her and the hold he had over her neck as he squeezed ever so forcefully. She had never feared anything as much as she had feared him and as much as she wanted to escape, she couldn't leave him behind. For even when she looked in the mirror, all she saw was him.

There was a special type of hell to have the person you cared about the most turn out to be the person that hated you most. She had to leave the house and go back to work and simply try to regain some sort of control over her life. She needed normalcy and to feel in secure and in control. Work was as work should be, simply a means where she could excel, a sanctuary for her if you please. The Ministry was a place that made sense to her, where things ran in accordance to how things should be and everything was predictable. Yet no one expected her to be able to come back so quickly and she she returned she got more than her fair share of surprised looks. It was clear to her that whenever she replied with a simple I'm fine, it was met with enough disbelief to have branded her a liar for the end of time, yet what else was she supposed to say? If she repeated it enough times, surely it would eventually become true.

Lorcan found herself spending most of her time in her office. International travel was beyond question and not from lack of trying. She was reduced to dealing with paperwork and meandering tasks that at times felt her feeling useless as well. The Ministry didn't prove to be much of a safe haven anyway. Diana had Harley looking after her multiple times a day, and he found a way to staying with her for longer than she would like. And if she was unfortunate enough to struggle with a certain movement or let out an involuntary cry of pain, he was there on a whim, poking and prodding her, ensuring her safety and restrain at all costs. She didn't want to be treated as a patient. Sure, the scars on her torso ached and at times painfully rubbed against her clothes, but that was what it was and there wasn't much she could do about it. She just needed time, by herself if possible.

Magic was still pretty much out of the question, as even raising her wand to unlock her office door resulted in a severe trembling of the hand. Seven years of intense magical learning fell apart in a course of one evening and she was furious. Leaving her with paperwork to fulfill also left her with enough time to try and correct the damage and control her magic but everything felt like child's play. She was suddenly nine years old and outbursts where she got scared or anxious turned into trinkets being broken and windows shattering into tiny little pieces. That didn't help her temper, which had escalated despite being known as a permanently calm and even indifferent presence. Her latest outburst had resulted in a broken coffee table with pieces of glass and wood scattered all over her floor and nothing more than a pair of eyes staring at the floor in frustration, sitting rather than standing because standing required an amount of energy and strength she simply didn't possess at the time.

The accident felt like so long ago, and yet the reminder of it followed Reid wherever he went. His head would be permanently scarred from the treatment he'd received after the injury and the severity of it. For awhile his head had been shaved, which basically put the enormous scar on display for all to grimace and wince in disgust. Thankfully his hair had been growing back over it and though the hair was a little strange in places, the longer it got the harder it was to even notice. Still, Reid found himself pushing his fingers under the fibers and finding the slick, knotted length of skin. The damage had undone Reid, but had somehow been both one of the best and one of the worst things that could have ever happened to him. He'd been such a cocky guy just before the injury and the ensuing pain and degradation had humbled him. He'd had to learn basic skills again and was sworn off magic for months. He'd been banned from field work until healers gave their medical clearance, so the one place he loved going so much became one of the worst. He hated sitting behind the desk and watching his coworkers go out there to chase dark wizards without him. He hated that his coworkers in the office stared at him with pity in their eyes.

But Reid had gotten better. It took awhile, but he'd had the support of a loving, doting girlfriend. Raquel had looked after him and had been so patient with him, even when he was mean and depressed and self-hating. She hadn't left his side. And now he was back at work and back in the field, using his wand again and chasing after dark wizards. It was almost like the injury had never happened. Almost.

He still suffered migraines from time to time. He was still missing a scattering of memories from the year or two before the injury. His ability to move things without touching them, psychokinesis, wasn't always functioning to the extent it had before. But all of those things could be overlooked when Reid thought about how lucky he was to have survived and recovered at all.

The latest gossip in the ministry was about one of the ambassadors, someone Reid didn't know personally but whom he'd heard had been in a coma and suffered in some of the same ways he had, but from a different source of injury. Reid had silent, distant sympathy for her, but not pity. He knew how degrading pity was and he wouldn't give that to anyone. When he heard news that the woman had returned to work earlier than expected, Reid knew why she would without even having to know her personally. He decided he might as well stop by her office because he also knew how lonely being back in the work place could be, when everyone around was afraid to talk to you because they didn't really know what the right thing to say would be.

Reid stood at the office door and rapped his knuckles against the frame. "I've got coffee," he said, though he didn't know if she drank it or not.

Lorcan was not someone that had ever had to deal with disadvantages. In fact, even when she had faced the worst tragedies of her life, she had still managed to come out relatively unscathed. She had managed to succeed and add to her list of achievements even after breaking the rules or behaving inappropriately. She had become Quidditch captain and pregnant at sixteen. She had neglected her duties as Head Girl, yet managed to be nominated once more for the following term. She had graduated despite all odds with an impeccable academic career and managed to score the job of a lifetime with as little effort as possible. There was nothing she couldn't do that wouldn't be handed to her. Lorcan glided and triumph and got what she wanted because that was just who she was. A successful person by all means and she managed to do so with elegance. She had never had to face a disadvantage or work very hard for anything.

But now, she was most definitely not gliding. She wasn't even skating. She kept tumbling forward in a clumsy, unsophisticated manner and it was frustrating. Those around her walked around eggshells and even the simple act of opening her own door or carrying a folder was done by someone else after being deemed unfit to carry on the job. She was perpetually in a foul mood and it wasn't even the fault of those around her because she understood that logically, all they were doing was trying to help her but she felt beyond help. The help she needed and wanted was simply a flicker of a wand and for things to go back to normal. To have a hold of her magic and her abilities and be able to walk into a room and ignite respect, not pity. Honesty, it seemed there was no where to go in this building that didn't make her feel so inadequate. Maybe Mathias got his wish after all.

Lorcan took a deep breath, grabbing her wand and pointing at her coffee table. Her hand was shaking and she mutter the incantation for the fixing charm, only to be faced with a few flickers of lights and a pieces that sort of wanted to come back together and just ended up falling back on the ground. She groaned and leaned back against her desk. It wasn't long before she heard a knock on her office door and Lor looked up not at all surprise. Harley, of course, and right on cue. She extended her arms and pulled herself from the ground slowly and carefully. Bending down was out of the question and doing this motion just made her feel like an ancient being, not someone in the prime of their youth. She walked over to the door and manually opened it, a true testament to her inability to cast anything magical.

When she did though, she came face to face with one of the aurors. A familiar face she had seen around the Ministry both prior to the accident and afterwards but nothing concrete. The auror held a cup of coffee in his hand and Lor looked down at it for a moment, confused. "Hello, can I help you?" Maybe he was here on official business, which was why Lorcan later reacted and opened her door further to allow him to come in. "Pardon the mess. You can sit over there on the couch if you like."

It might have seemed a little rude to just show up unannounced, but Reid knew only too well that when you were in the state of mine he could only assume Lorcan was in, it was only too easy to decline premeditated invitations for anything. How many times had Reid made up an excuse so he didn't have to leave his loft? How many times had he grumbled and hid away in there, piling up boxes of take out and tubs of ice cream until he'd gotten a bit fat? Now that his life was in order and he was back in shape, he was a little bit ashamed of that behavior, but he knew it wasn't entirely his fault. It was the circumstances. Luckily the woman let him come in, though he recognized the surprise on her face. He walked inside and put one of the mugs of coffee on the desk, holding the other for himself. His was black with extra sugar, the way he liked it, and he took a comforting sip from the mug before clearing his throat and nodding toward the window. "You've got a pretty nice view, you know," he said conversationally. He paused a moment to look out at it, which was also his way of giving Lorcan a silent and respectful minute to travel back to a comfortable position because he was fully aware she wasn't moving with the same energy a young girl like her ought to. But he wasn't judgmental, which was exactly why he'd come to begin with. At last he did look over at her and said, "I wasn't sure if you like coffee or how you drink it. I've got a bit of sugar and cream in there but I can fetch another if you'd like." Reid offered a smile, kindness in his eyes. "I never had the chance to formally introduce myself, have I?" he had to ask because though there had been surprise on her face, Reid's memory was shot in some sense. He was sure it would strengthen again, but he couldn't be confident he hadn't ever actually spoken to Lorcan before.

Lor watched him carefully and followed his movements as he placed the coffee on her desk. She slowly closed the door behind her and once she did, it took her. few moments before she could truly start walking towards the sofa. She would have joined him at the window, but the walk there would have taken far longer than she would have liked and honestly, being so slow really made her feel self-conscious, something that she had never quite experienced before and nor particularly knew how to handle it. "Yes, it is nice," she said, not really knowing what to tell him. It was true though. She did have a nice view and that was one of the perks of her office. If she was bound to four walls then at least, make them bearable. Even in her own home, everything was nice but being cooped up made everything feel off after a while. She wasn't in the most appreciative mood it seemed.

"The coffee is fine as it is, thank you," she said, holding on to the mug with two hands and covering the one hand that was shaking to make it all seemed less obvious. Maybe it wasn't as obvious as she thought but to her it felt as though everyone was watching her and everyone knew what was up with her and she just wanted to pass by unacknowledged. Just for a little bit until she got things back in order and retained some control. "You haven't, but then again I don't think I have either. I'm Lorcan Delevingne. One of the ambassadors."

Reid nodded somewhat dismissively when she said the coffee was fine as it was, unsure if she was saying it out of politeness or was genuine, but it didn't matter. He wasn't there because of the coffee and she probably knew that, even if she wasn't sure exactly why he had stopped by. Reid did notice her hand, even if she had used a second hand to try and hide it. Offering a small smile, Reid said, "It goes away, that," and gestured with his chin to her hands. "It took mine a little while but... it doesn't last forever." Reid lifted his coffee and drank deeply, then sat forward and lowered the mug. "Reid Lych. I'm one of the aurors. I was just about to finish my third year of training when I had my accident." Reid let his coffee mug rest against his knee before adding, "I heard about yours. Kind of hard not to. Gossip runs around these corridors a bit quick, doesn't it?" Reid sighed and gave his head a small shake, the edge of his scar likely quite visible from the angle he was sitting at. "Are you annoyed as shit with the way they're all treating you?" he added curiously, speaking quite bluntly.

Lorcan lowered her gaze when he spoke. So he did notice and she wasn't just being paranoid. She wondered who else noticed. Was this what it was like to be self-conscious? Afraid that every movement was judged and entailed a string of unwanted comments. She took a small sip of the coffee and looked up after a while. She swallowed hard, because there were times when she was overwhelmed with emotions and it took her a moment to really get herself calm. She tilted herself to the side, suddenly very interested in the conversation that had ensued. Wait, was he talking about what she thought he was talking about? She opened her mouth to speak but was surprised and nothing came out until he introduced himself. "Nice to meet you Reid," she said with a chuckle.

"I've heard about you." She didn't mean for it to sound rude so hopefully it didn't came out like that. "Ah so you're here more on personal business than anything to do with our jobs." She smiled at him, trying to be polite but she couldn't help but be just a tad bit annoyed at the whole thing. She was trying thought to be more pleasant lately but all she wanted to be was alone. "Yeah, I'm used to being talked about behind my back. I guess the Ministry is not that different from Hogwarts," she said before taking another sip of his drink. "Annoyed doesn't even begin to describe it. I'm angry. Everyone treats me like I'm fragile. I'm not fragile. Things take me longer to do and I'm slower but I'm not fragile. You know one of my colleagues won't even let me carry my own paperwork?" She's sighed rolling her eyes to herself.

"You said yours went away after a while? How long did it take? Do you remember what happened to you?" That was before her time so she had no idea what kind of accident he had endured. Being an auror, she could imagine what happened but she was curious about what the situation had entailed.

Reid might not have been so straight forward, but he didn't think there was any reason to beat around the bush. What other reason would he have being in Lorcan's office if not to offer a kind of familiarity to her situation? He remembered what his first few days back had been like and how he had been treated. As such, he knew that she would be going through something similar if not worse being that she was a woman. He chuckled when she said she'd heard about him and tilted an imaginary hat. "Well, people like us ought to stick together, don't you think?" Sure, he was there on a more personal note than business, but it was camaraderie and she might understand better later. Again Reid had to laugh because what she said was all too true. "Sometimes I feel like I'm right back in the common room." Reid had had plenty of people talking behind his back in those days as well, though he'd brought much of it on himself. He nodded silently, then scoffed when she said about her coworker. "You have to shut that shit down," he said seriously. "You have to tell them that the only way you'll really get better is by doing it yourself. You know what you can and can't handle." Reid also knew that it was easy to push yourself beyond what you could handle, but it was a learning curve.

"I think it took a couple months. I mean, my shakes weren't too bad. It was using magic that was the worst. I couldn't use my wand for what felt like forever." By extension, that would mean feeling like you couldn't use an arm. Wizards relied on their wands for so much, and it was especially true for aurors. "It took me a really long time to get to where I am now." He paused and lifted his mug to take another long drink. It helped him stay focused and was something he'd missed in the early days of recovery that he wasn't allowed to have the caffeine. "I only know what I was told, to be honest. There's a lot I don't remember, even from before the accident, but the day it happened and all the time I must have been in my coma... I don't remember any of that. I don't even remember when I first woke up."

Lorcan smiled the first genuine smile she had in a while and lowered her gaze down as she took a sip of her coffee. It felt so good to be able to talk about this without feeling as though she was the only one in the world who truly understood how this felt. As much as she loved her friends, it was true that they could never understand how she felt, or how demeaning it was to be degraded to this shell of a person that they believed couldn't do anything. They were trying to be supportive but it just didn't work that way. Diana especially was so attentive and overbearing but she was a healer and trained in bedside manner. She just wanted to feel like she could breathe in her own house and so far, that was not the case.

"I just thought it was amusing that I was finally meeting you because I'm a twin too and my brother and I are sort of the new you, if that makes sense. Like every generation has their own set," she said and boy had they set the standards high for whatever next pair of twins decided to graze the halls of the school. Hopefully it would be some a whole lot more wholesome than they were. As Reid continued to talk, she noticed the scar on his head, just barely visible under his head, which immediately made her reach out at her chest and place her hand over it as though she was protecting it. She didn't know what brought that reaction but lately every time someone stared at her for longer than usual, she would clench whatever she was holding closer to her body, a shield of some sort.

"I will," she said. "Sometimes I don't know how to because I feel so angry all the time and I don't want to lose my temper. It is something that I have never experienced before so it has me worried." Which made her point at the coffee table or what was left of it. "That's how that happen. I get sudden moments of anger, like when you're a kid and my magic explodes all over the place. I can't really do anything with my wand. I feel like I lost an extension of myself. Which, would you mind fixing it for me? I've tried and I shake too much to conjure the spell properly."

Lorcan sighed. From what Reid said, it was really just a matter of time. Everything would go back to normal but it just took time. She was a little impatient and wanted things to go back to normal then. She wanted to feel normal again and walk about life without being fearful of what could happen to her. She wanted to stop jumping out of her skin every time there was an uncalled for noise. She had bits and pieces of the accident. She couldn't remember all of it but she was sure it was there at the back of her mind. She could remember of she really wanted to and a part of her already knew what happened anyway, she just didn't want to admit it. She was silent for a while, looking down at her coffee and took a small sip. "How long did it take before you felt safe again?"

Reid quirked a brow and gave Lorcan a curious look. So she had a twin brother, and felt they were the "new him" or something? He knew he had had a reputation back in school, but he couldn't be certain that Lorcan and her brother were even remotely close to what Reid and Harper were like. "I suppose you are rather close to your brother, then. Harper and I were practically inseparable... well, until I started dating, I guess." Reid chuckled, unknowing that many of Lorcan's problems were due to her brother. He had the fortune of having a very tight bond with his sister and even though they had diverged just a bit in their later years at school, they'd managed to remain close. He was grateful to have her in his life and could only assume Lorcan would feel similarly about her twin.

Reid listened almost therapeutically as Lorcan described the bursts of anger she would feel. He remembered his own poor attitude and his awful temper, how he could fly off the rails at a moments notice. He was impatient all the time and didn't treat people very kindly. "I think that's to be expected. I was the same," Reid said as he pulled his wand out and looked to the broken table. He muttered the reparo charm, watched the table fix itself, then put his wand back. "I took my frustration out on everyone and everything around me. I let myself really get out of hand." Reid sighed and relaxed back in his seat once more, not really wanting to think back on those horrible days too much because they were embarrassing. He considered her next question, wondering what she meant but thinking it must be just in general. He gave her a genuine look as he said, "I never stopped feeling safe, I guess. But that's my own hard headedness - oh the irony!" he said at realizing his "joke" since his head clearly was the recipient of his injury. "No, I mean, in my field you can't be afraid. We're meant to be facing danger at every turn, you know? So it's kind of like... I'll never be safe and because I know that, I'll always feel safe? If that makes any sense?" Reid sighed and thought he probably sounded really confusing. "I spend my entire day on guard, though... but it really has more to do with my job than the injury itself. I don't have many memories about it all, so it's not like I have nightmares or anything. I can't remember the accident at all."

That wasn't precisely what she meant, because as far as things went Lorcan and Mathias were polar opposites from Harper and Reid. There was nothing about the two sets of twins that even resembled one another. But she had heard things about them after they graduated, as she was sure people would hear about her and her brother. They were different legacies altogether, but infamous in their own way. Lorcan understood what she meant, and that was really all that mattered. "Oh we are not," she said with a chuckle. "In fact, quite the opposite. He really hates me." She wasn't about to tell him that Mathias was the one responsible for the incident. Lorcan herself struggled with that herself and she was not really to openly admit that to anyone. It was painful and she knew how the rumor mill worked. It was her best kept secret and it was going to remain as such.

At least she was relieved that she wasn't the only one whose temper had changed as a result of this whole mess. She was glad that he understood her but that also meant that she had a long way to go by the looks of things. It didn't make her feel any better that he never stopped feeling safe. Sure, she could understand that in his line of work it was vital he didn't, but then she had no frame of reference to how to make herself feel like she wasn't going to jump out of her skin at a moment's notice. "I get that. I just have such a hard time falling asleep anymore. I can't. I feel like it's gonna happen again when he realizes he didn't finish the job."

Reid had always been an excellent judge of character and skilled at reading people, which was something that made him excel in his career. He had to spot darkness and that meant being able to gauge what someone might be thinking or feeling. Since the accident, he had tried to hone those skills even more, but that didn't mean there were faults. He hadn't anticipated the shift in tone in their conversation, nor that Lorcan and her brother could possibly not be close, or even the opposite. Instead of jumping in and assuring Lorcan that there was no way her brother hated her, he remained silent and observed her a moment, considering it. Maybe something had happened that caused a rift. Surely they hadn't always had that tension. Finally he gave one firm nod and said, "I'm sorry to hear that. I hope, for your sakes, that changes some day." he knew how important it was to have supportive and loving family because he always had. He didn't pity Lorcan, but he did think quietly that in one way she did remind him of Raquel... With family that hated her for whatever, likely irrational, reason. That thought have Reid the fleeting image of the woman he harbored a lot of love for, silently wondering how she was doing since he hadn't seen her since he had broken her heart.

Reid looked at Lorcan with concern as she confessed to troubles sleeping. If she was fearful that she would be attacked by the original culprit, it made him wonder if the man hadn't been caught. His brow furrowed and he said, "Was your attacker pursued by authorities? Is there a report? If you need protection... That's why we have the auror unit." he was, by all accounts, making a subtle suggestion she consider bringing on some formal protection of needed until the culprit was found and apprehended. He knew it could also just be PTSD, so he obviously needed some clarity.

Honestly, you never think that the people closer to you would ever be capable of inflicting so much pain but more often than not, that is the truth of the matter. With the notable exception of her father, the most important men in her life hadn't ended up being the nicest or safest of men to begin with. Those relationships could even be considered toxic but she loved them. She loved them more than words could say so what did that say about her? Was she wrong for loving them the way she had and for wanting them to live their best lives? Mathias was her brother and more importantly, her twin. She wanted him to be happy, to feel content, to have a life outside of the hate and anger and pain that they had caused each other. She wanted him to liberate himself from all the rubbish he carried. She had forgiven him, but that didn't mean she wasn't scared.

There was a part of her that didn't want to see him because she was afraid he would try again and she did not want to die. She didn't want to go through that whole ordeal again. She wasn't sure her body would recuperate a second time. And even then, she never thought of her family life as unpleasant or dysfunctional or full of hate. Because her relationship with her brother was entirely separate from all her other relatives. It was the exception rather than the rule. "Me too. I mean, you more than anyone understand how close that twin bond can be. We've known each other our entire lives and when we did get along it was like having a best friend." She shrugged. Honestly, she didn't understand how Mat could not want that for himself. How could he not feel the bond that she felt. She would do anything for him. Why couldn't he do the same?

She shook her head when he asked her about the culprit. Harley had been toying around with that idea for a few weeks now. Not that he really said much about it to her. He had said it once and then Lorcan continued to eavesdrop on his conversations with Diana. She didn't want to be impolite, but it was hard not to be curious when people were clearly talking about you. Lorcan just wanted Harley to drop it. To leave things alone. The last thing her parents needed was to have one of their kids apprehended and trial. It would break her mom's heart to have her only son sent to Azkaban. Lorcan wouldn't do that to her. "No, he hasn't. I don't think I need protection. Surely there are other things the aurora can preoccupy themselves with. I just mean, I hate jumping out of my skin so much. Be so on edge."

Reid couldn't fully understand the situation Lorcan was in and it wasn't worth pretending that he could. He was the one who usually caused pain to his loved ones, though never intentionally. He thought he was undeserving of them, and it was something like a self fulfilling prophecy because what happened in turn was that he ultimately suffered and caused them suffering. He did it time and again, never seeming to learn from his mistakes.

Reid nodded slowly, definitely understanding the bond of a twin. Even though he and Harper were different genders, thus fraternal, the twin thing was undeniably an important part of who they were. They loved one another unconditionally and would support each other no matter the cost. Reid couldnt imagine his life without her. He couldn't even begin to picture what it would be like if he lost her, even if it was just her friendship. He didnt need to say these things, though. He was smart enough to sense that it might be too sensitive of a subject.

Reid frowned and paused in thought. Lorcan didn't want the aurors to get involved, but, "it's our job," he said simply. Still, if she didn't want an investigation, he couldn't force that on her. "I guess I can understand. I think about my attacker sometimes, and how I would feel now if he had survived and gotten away. I wish I could have been the one to take his life, not because I'm a murderer, but because the injury stole so much from mine. He sighed and absently touched his hair where the scar was and would be for the rest of his life.

Despite the fact that the two of them shared so many things in common, something told Lorcan that their experience was inherently different. Yet she did manage to be grateful to have someone she could talk to that understood, even at some level, everything that she had gone through that was even harder to explain. It was oddly refreshing to be able to say the words and not worry about whether or not he understood her. He just did. "I appreciate it, really," she said. "But I think it will be okay. I have a feeling it would make me feel more vulnerable and I don't know if that is what I need. Not that I don't appreciate your gesture, I do so very much, but you get what I mean, right?" She wanted to make it clear that she wasn't seeing his offer as something unpleasant but she had learned in the last few weeks that her emotional health was perhaps more important than what she had previously anticipated and right now, she needed to address that too. "If anything, I really appreciate just having someone to talk to. Thank you for bringing the coffee and just checking in. It might have felt unwelcome at first but it actually really helped me out. You're such a sweet guy." She took another sip if it and gave him a smile that was warm and just conveyed how nice it was that despite all of this darkness, there was a little light in the form of unexpected interactions with people. That even when it felt there was no one who knew what she was going through, she wasn't really alone.

It didn't come as a surprise to her that given the events that had transpired during the Quidditch cup that the Ministry would want to know who was responsible and why. All the departments seemed to be involved in trying to figure this one out and it was imperative that they did so, since the attack seemed to have been directed at the Minister. Lorcan had a really interesting perspective on the whole assassination attempt. Sure, it would be awful and no life should be lost that way but also, if the attempt had been successful, they could always just get another Minister for Magic right? No big deal. Who knew. It was just one of those thoughts she had at times.

She had been appointed alongside with Reid to do the interrogation and that worked for her just fine since the two of them were on friendly terms. What was a little ironic and honestly like a smack from the universe, was that the person they had to interrogate was Donovan. The folder they had been given simply said that he was interrogated because he was a Selwyn and because he had conveniently left the VIP area right before the explosion. There was such a thing as a coincidence though and honestly, just because he was a Selwyn didn't mean he was automatically responsible for every single bad thing that happened, though at times she would have thought that too.

Donovan loathed anything pertaining to the government. He thought their workers were nothing but sheep and spineless little minions who'd chosen this profession simply because they couldn't think on their own terms. After receiving the notice, he had shown Ém and scoffed because he knew the only reason he was being question was due to his surname, which was total bullshit in his opinion. Shortly after she had received her own, simply for her association to him. This angered him naturally. And to top it all off it was the very day after their wedding. Had the date been different and not impeding on his honeymoon activities then he would have probably been more receptive to humor them out of sheer boredom, but as it were he was pissed. It was a controlled anger though and forced himself to smile reassuringly at Émilie, who was very worried about the whole ordeal. He promised her that in just a few hours time they'd be soaking it up in the sun and enjoying the start of their honeymoon and their new chapter as husband and wife. After going separate ways and giving her one of his infamous smirks and a wink, he turned around with a scowl, already feeling his blood pressure increase as he walked towards the office- and out of all people- Lorcan Delevingne's. Any other given time he wouldn't have minded a chat with her, but when it came to this, he was far from being friendly. Still, he had to remind himself that Lorcan probably didn't go out of her way for him to be on the suspect list and looked at his wedding ring for a sense of grounding. Just be calm. Don't blow up. He reminded himself with a heavy sigh and knocked on the door with two sharp raps and turned the knob to enter. His eyes landed on Lorcan and searched for the other official that was supposed to join them, but it seemed she was alone and closed the door behind him. Perhaps it was better that the two were alone at first, "Lor." He greeted her with a curt nod of his head and looked around her office with his hands behind his back. It was her style for sure and fixed the front of his suit before baby blues met hers. "Clearly there's been a mistake here, official. I don't care for the government nor its members, let alone some measly little Minister. Honestly people die everyday and no one bats an eyelash, but one attack on whats-her-face and half of the UK is being summoned for questioning?" He asked rhetorically with a snicker. "As if I would willingly put myself and most importantly Émilie in danger? C'mon!"

In some ways, Reid had been a bit absent the last few months. It was almost like part of him had left his body and he wasn't exactly whole anymore. He went about his daily routines, going to work and investing himself in his case loads, going home though now it was to his parents' house instead of the apartment above Florean's. He spent most of his "down time" alone, reading and studying up on the fields of magic that most interested him. Anyone who knew him well also knew that he was a highly capable wizard and had always been talented with a wand. He was smart, was the simplest way to put it. But that spark of his personality that made him light up a room with charisma was gone. That was probably why he was just plain fed up that this attack happened in the first place and that he had to be dragged out of his normal routine to do interrogations on some run-of-the-mill scum. Reid had been assigned to work with Lorcan Delevingne, which was odd in and of itself since last he checked she wasn't an investigative witch, and also annoyed him because lately he preferred working alone rather than on a team. But all things said, she was at least a simple enough person to talk to.

Reid had the file in his hand with the most basic details about the wizard they were interrogating. Donovan Selwyn didn't interest him in the slightest, though his name did. Reid had done extensive research leading up to this interrogation on the history of the still-young wizards surname. Did Reid believe the kid was capable of orchestrating such an attack? No. Did he think someone the little turd was connected to might? Sure. But talking to him would probably be an utter waste of time because something about the look on the guy's face in that photo attached to his file told Reid that he wasn't the type to become a little bitch and rat his family out because of fear of being fed to a chimera.

Swinging into the office, Reid didn't stop himself from slamming the door behind him. He turned around and slapped the file down on the desk, having just overheard the last bit of Selwyn's comments to Lorcan the moment he'd been entering the room. "Getting comfortable?" he remarked rhetorically, immediately sensing there was something here between these two. Call it his intuition, but the way the guy was sitting in that office certainly made it seem like he was more familiar than an ordinary wizard under interrogation might be. "Official Delevingne," he added in polite greeting to her, though his expression was dark and emotionless.

The funny thing was that Lorcan and Donovan shared some of the same sentiments when it came to this particular situation. Everyone was replaceable, and that didn't exclude them. There had been many Ministers before this one and would be more after. It was just a reality of life and while she could understand why they were making such a big deal, she had to admit it was a little annoying. Lorcan had no idea that this was the day after Donovan's wedding. Well, she had written it down somewhere to ensure she sent him a letter from Charlotte but she had forgotten and it's not like she had been invited so no gift from her part. Either way, Lorcan looked at Donovan and knew from years of knowing him that he was annoyed, which meant this would go by really slowly and it would very annoying. They had a long day before them. "Don't give me that condescending tone," she said. "Do you really think I wanted to get you here? I'm not particularly convinced you did it." She leaned against her desk and gave him a small sympathetic look. This was just too ironic. Whoever had assigned them together clearly didn't know that Lorcan would let him go regardless of whether or not he was responsible.

Just then Reid walked into her office and slammed the door behind him. Well what kind of fucking bills did he pay that he thought he could just waltz in and slam the door to her office. She lifted her gaze towards him and if Donovan had turned to look at her, he would see the gaze of annoyance that she carefully curated behind her normal look of composure. "Hello," she told Reid slowly and wondered by the look of his face, just what his problem was. "Alright then," she said walking towards her desk and taking a seat. "Official Lych, if you please." She gestured for him to begin the interrogation as she opened the folder and waited patiently for him to start.
